WHY YOU MUST READ THE BIBLE EVERYDAY

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17

Every follower of Christ has some belief that he should read the Bible. But for many, it is an optional exercise. In reality it is indispensable. Paul convinces us of this in two brief verses to his young son in the faith, Timothy.

IT IS INSPIRED

The word is literally "God-breathed." The Bible is not merely the collection of sayings of men about God. God moved on men and inspired the writing of each word. This is why we can trust its reliability.

If God has so spoken and had it recorded for us, then we must pay constant attention to His voice through His Word. To ignore the Bible is to turn a shoulder to God as He is seeking to have a conversation with us. It is to ignore Him.

IT IS PROFITABLE

There is nothing—nothing—that can do what God's Word does in our lives. Nothing gives us greater profit. How so? It is profitable for

  • TEACHING: It shows us the path.
  • REPROOF: It shows us when we get off the path.
  • CORRECTION: It shows us how to get back on the path.
  • TRAINING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS: It shows us how to stay on the path.

In fact, Paul says that it will make the "man of God adequate, equipped for every good work." Not some, not a few, but every good work. How could we possible ignore God daily as He is speaking and why would we abandon our most valuable equipping?

Father, we are overwhelmed by the truth that You have given us Your Word. We are thankful for its reliability. We are stunned by the constant help it is to make us ready for everything. Help us to so honor Your word that we let it have its rightful place in our lives every day and throughout the day.

The worst evaluation that could be given of true believers is that they are “walking like mere men.” True believers are Spirit-men. Human, yes, but humans in whom Christ dwells. We have everything we need in us, and our lives are to be lived by trusting Him to live through us … giving us His understanding, supplying us with His character, directing us with His perfect guidance
