The Wisdom of Daily Faith

Every single day--in fact each moment, decision, and action--you are illustrating your dependence on something. You will either trust in man (including yourself), or you will choose in that moment to depend upon God.

The Psalmist in Psalm 146, gives us mental and spiritual ammunition as to why the latter is so superior. He tells us not to trust in ""mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to earth, in that very day His thoughts perish"" (Psalm 146:3-4).

THE VALUE OF FAITH IN GOD

But then he gives the stunning contrast between your ability and God's. It as if he holds us God as ""Exhibit A"" in the trial of faith to convince us of God's value ... to woo us to dependency upon Him. Notice the power and activity of our sufficient God, seen in the verbs.

Psalm 146

 5 How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,

Whose hope is in the Lord his God,

 6 Who made heaven and earth,

The sea and all that is in them;

Who keeps faith forever;

 7 Who executes justice for the oppressed;

Who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free.

 8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind;

The Lord raises up those who are bowed down;

The Lord loves the righteous;

 9 The Lord protects the strangers;

He supports the fatherless and the widow,

But He thwarts the way of the wicked.

 10 The Lord will reign forever,

Your God, O Zion, to all generations.

Praise the Lord!

DEPEND ON HIM TODAY!

Why would you walk in self-reliance a single moment longer? Why would you not look to the Lord today—crying out to Him in prayer, listening to His Word and His Spirit and letting Him lead you throughout the decisions of the day. Why would you not pray without ceasing today? Why would you not BELIEVE, and operate in the realm of the heavenlies, instead of going a second longer UNBELIEVING, groveling in mere humanistic experience?

He is the One who has created and sustains and empowers all who look to Him. And He will never fail and will always be there, reigning forever. Every action of today determines your faith. Surely He deserves your trust … and He deserves it now.

The worst evaluation that could be given of true believers is that they are “walking like mere men.” True believers are Spirit-men. Human, yes, but humans in whom Christ dwells. We have everything we need in us, and our lives are to be lived by trusting Him to live through us … giving us His understanding, supplying us with His character, directing us with His perfect guidance
