REMEMBERING GOD’S WORK

REMEMBERING GOD’S WORK

We are notorious forgetters. God moves and provides for us daily. And then, there are those extraordinary moments when He encounters us. But in light of this growing number of experiences of God’s goodness, is there ever-increasing gratitude and worship?

BACK TO BETHEL

Jacob is an example. God met him at critical junctures, but none more life-altering than the encounter at Bethel. God was so anxious for Jacob never to forget this that He instructed him to move there and make an altar.

Genesis 35
1 Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from your brother Esau.”
2 So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods which are among you, and purify yourselves and change your garments;
3 and let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”

Where has God met you? Have you forgotten? Do you regularly review His works and live from that understanding? Are you more grateful because you have years of accumulated goodness from God?

If not, it may be time to return to Bethel.

Father, help me to have increasing gratitude. Let the past fuel the future of faithfulness to You.

The worst evaluation that could be given of true believers is that they are “walking like mere men.” True believers are Spirit-men. Human, yes, but humans in whom Christ dwells. We have everything we need in us, and our lives are to be lived by trusting Him to live through us … giving us His understanding, supplying us with His character, directing us with His perfect guidance
