What Do You Do? (When you don't know what to do?)

June 11, 2014

David was in trouble. As a leader, he was a constant target from his enemies. Even his familiar friends raised their hand against him (Psalm 55:12-13). He said, ""There are many who strive with me."" (Psalm 55:18b)

This brought David into tremendous anxiety. Notice the words he uses to describe his state in Psalm 55:

""I am restless"" vs. 2

""Surely distracted"" vs. 2

""My heart is in anguish within me (vs.4)

""The terrors of death have fallen upon me""( vs. 4)

""fear and trembling come upon me and horrors has overwhelmed me.""

So much so that he just wants to run away:

""O, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest!"" (vs. 6)

So, what in the world do you do when you are at the end of your rope? When you're in anxiety and turmoil? Here is David's response:

""As for me, I shall call upon God, and the Lord will save me. Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and murmur, and He will hear my voice. He will redeem my soul in peace from the battle, which is against me, for there are many who strive with me. God will hear and answer them--even the One who sits enthroned from of old."" (vs. 16-19)

""Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken."" (vs. 22)

I have spent many sleepless nights trying to ""figure out"" what I can do to defend myself or change a situation. All it ever gave me was sleepless heartburn. But peace and rest ALWAYS comes when I genuinely turn and trust Him, based on the promises of the Word (7,000 of them!), which He makes real and personal to me as I seek Him.

He saved David and He will save you and me!

From the moment of our birth, a spiral of death begins. Cells live and die. Each cell in your body carries in its DNA the exact number of times it will replicate, and then it stops. That’s why our hair loses color, our skin wrinkles, and our physical body ultimately stops working.
