The Great Liar is relentless in his assault upon the One whose throne he longs to dispossess. We were designed to praise God--to give Him glory in the highest order. To abort that, Satan wages a relentless assault on our thinking as to the character of God.
"God is not loving, and He certainly is not kind," he whispers at every dark moment in our experience. "If he loved you, He would not have allowed this to happen."
He never misses an opportunity to defame our perfectly righteous God.
If we are not wise, we will not recognize the source of these thoughts. A creeping mistrust will slide in like a morning fog over our hearts. Doubts will arise as to God's goodness, and we will find ourselves unwilling to surrender to this God we now question. (Why would you give yourself to One you did not think had your best interest at heart?"
But this is the purpose of the Bible. It records the truth about God for all time, the true agenda behind all His ways. It stands by your favorite chair, like a sentinel, waiting at every moment to defend the Father. To speak the truth about the lovingkindness of our God. The Spirit whispers to us to open its pages and see the testimony of millions who have discovered the truth about God. It beckons us to sink in surrender into His arms.
David saw it, and it repeatedly strengthened his soul and corrected his steps amid the darkness.
"Because of (my enemy's) strength, I will watch for You, for God is my stronghold. My God in His lovingkindness will meet me; God will let me look triumphantly upon my foes ... But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I will joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, for You have been my stronghold and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my strength, I will sing praises to You; for God is my stronghold the God who shows me lovingkindness." (Psalm 59:9-10, 16-17)
Perhaps you're reading this right now because God wants you to recognize the whispers of the Enemy and the reality of God. Be wise. Recognize the Source of every doubt you feel rising in your soul. Resist the Enemy, and he will flee from you.
And relax in God's goodness. He is not only loving in all His works toward You but also exceedingly and perfectly and eternally kind.
Father, forgive me for not reading Your Word more. Give me the wisdom and grace to study You so that I may know You better and trust You more. Remind me of the Great Accuser’s constant work and help me wisely resist his lies about You. Let my life show others the truth about You.
