In our nation, and particularly in this very conflicting political season, we are tempted to say and do things towards people that are incredibly unkind. The Bible, as always, speaks to those who know Christ for moments like this.
""Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing consideration for all men."" (Titus 3:1-2)
This doesn't mean that we should avoid tough conversations or speaking the truth. But in all things ... love. Even your enemies, says Jesus.
Look at Paul’s list above, and then ask yourself if you are responding to ANYONE at ANYTIME in ways contrary to this instruction from Paul to us. if so, it would be good to clear your conscience before God and those you've hurt, and repent.
But Paul tells us WHY we should respond this way.
For we also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another. But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior. (Titus 3:3-6)
Pretty clear. You're not so hot yourself. In fact, apart from Christ, anyone of us is completely capable of the most wicked and wrong decisions and responses.
If you are a follower of Christ, He has delivered you—not by your good works—but by His kindness, His mercy, and His incredible, loving sacrifice on your behalf.
We should remember this.
Particularly in this political season.
