GOD ANSWERS US

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind. (JOB 38:1)

It is one of the most amazing things about our existence as humans. If we are in a position to hear, God speaks to us.

This is not in an audible voice in our day (although God could do that if He desired). But if He is God and if we are made by Him, it would make sense that He can speak to us so clearly that we can understand what He wants us to know.

JOB’S ANSWERS

Job had gone through horrific trials. With those trials came an abundance of very natural questions. It’s not wrong to ask questions of God. He understands our frame and knows how our minds and hearts operate. He is not threatened by our curiosity, particularly when it comes through the megaphone of suffering.

Jesus understands us. When facing the cross, He asked God a question about taking the cup of suffering away. He knows that the complexities of life confuse us. That’s why He has given us the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and the Church of God to speak to us.

GOD’S PATIENCE

God waited patiently for Job to finish his inquiries. And then—in the right time and right way—God began to speak.

He didn’t answer the way a man would answer. He never does. For His “ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.” But His communication was clear and long enough to satisfy Job’s concerns.

The answer was enough for Job. For the faithful servant’s response was repentance, worship, and even greater surrender.

Do you have questions for God? Then ask Him to speak to you and put yourself in a position to hear by a continual study of His Word, prayer, and counsel with godly Christians. God gave Job enough of an answer that Job could believe and follow Him. And He’ll do the same for you.

Father, I’m so grateful that You speak. Where would I be without Your voice to my heart? Thank You for the many times You have spoken so clearly to me. Help me to always stay in a position to hear Your voice. And give me grace to respond in humble, obedient faith.

From the moment of our birth, a spiral of death begins. Cells live and die. Each cell in your body carries in its DNA the exact number of times it will replicate, and then it stops. That’s why our hair loses color, our skin wrinkles, and our physical body ultimately stops working.
