AND THE DOOR WAS SHUT

AND THE DOOR WAS SHUT

“And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Later the other virgins also came, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open up for us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you.’“Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour. (Matthew 25:10-13)

I was overwhelmed this morning with these five words in Matthew 25: "and the door was shut." It reminded me of God shutting the door on Noah's ark (which is a picture of our salvation) and no one could enter. Their opportunity forever ended. A horrifying prospect.

It will be that way for millions. They will be casually going on with their lives, ignoring God, and then the end will come and they will not be ready.

It is our job to warn those who do not know Christ of this soon-coming end. To proclaim from the housetops that this day is coming and that there is a way to come to know God and be known by God through Jesus Christ.

If we lived with this reality, it would change our witness and urgency and prayer. I wonder who we could tell today?

I have three pastors that I have met with every year for an accountability retreat. It is one of the highlights of my year and other than my family, these brothers are my richest relational treasure. We talk every week, and our lives now are intricately intertwined. We will ride into the sunset together, by the grace of God.
