The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice. The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip. (Psalm 37:30-31)
Most men never read the Bible. Although access to God is available, they think it is unneeded. This is pride in its purest form. To choose to lean on your own understanding instead of God's is an indication of total arrogance. It may be unknowing pride, but pride nonetheless.
Some men read the Bible occasionally, sporadically looking for a little thought or two. Usually, this is done out of a sense of duty—an understanding that they should read the Bible, but no deep conviction about its value or their need.
THE BLESSED FEW
But there are others who, through the years, have become Bible men. They know it is their lifeline. They read humbly to hear from God and get their marching orders. They seek to read obediently, finding what God wants them to do and gladly following. They read reverently, knowing that it is God speaking. They read joyfully, knowing that they have the incredible opportunity to commune with God.
WHO HAVE THE LAW IN THEIR HEARTS
These men, almost without knowing it, become equipped with God's truth deep within. “The law of God is in his heart,” and it is ready on their minds and lips when needed. Wisdom and justice come rolling out, almost without thinking. They become counselors to many. People naturally seek them out for they have the words of God and it becomes extremely evident to others.
THEIR FEET DO NOT SLIP
Although they are not sinless, for no man is, they are kept from many sins that plunge others into ruin and destruction. They have stability because they are getting their daily directions from the One-Who-Sees and they are intimately supported by the One-Who-Holds.
It does not happen overnight, but such equipping comes from a long obedience in the same direction. And increasingly they discover that the truths of God have been transferred from the page right into their hearts and has taken up permanent residence.
